Dead man's switch: how automatic message delivery works

Hugete · Équipe éditoriale

The term "dead man's switch" comes from the railway industry. It's a device that triggers automatically if the operator stops acting — a safety mechanism designed for situations where the human can no longer intervene.

How Hugete implements the dead man's switch

Hugete's mechanism is designed to be reliable without being intrusive:

1. HugVeille: the watch system

You choose a watch date. As it approaches:

  • D-7: first reminder by email and/or SMS
  • D-3: second reminder
  • D-1: final reminder

2. Grace period and HugGuard

If you don't respond to any reminder:

  • A 48-hour grace period starts
  • Your HugGuard (trusted contact) is alerted
  • The HugGuard can confirm or block activation

3. Delivery

If the grace period expires without blocking, your Capsule's Hugz are delivered to each HugOne via their personal HugBox.

Why it's safer than a digital will

  • No third party needed: Hugete works autonomously
  • No risk of forgetting: the system reminds you automatically
  • Reversible while you're here: you can modify, delete, or postpone anytime
  • Confidential: even your HugGuard never sees your message content
